Biennale di Venezia Opens Calls for Two New Choreographies for Biennale Danza 2027

The Biennale di Venezia has launched national and international calls for two original choreographic works to premiere at the 2027 edition of Biennale Danza, with submissions open until October 20, 2026.

On September 15, 2026, the Biennale di Venezia announced the opening of national and international calls for two new, original choreographies. These works are scheduled to debut at Biennale Danza 2027, the 21st International Festival of Contemporary Dance, which will take place from July 15 to 31, 2027. Artists and companies interested in participating can submit their proposals online through the official Biennale website until October 20, 2026.

The selection of the two choreographies will be overseen by Wayne McGregor, the artistic director of the Dance Sector at the Biennale. The foundation will provide financial support for the creation of the new works, which may be developed independently or in collaboration with other partners. This support includes coverage of artistic fees, travel, accommodation, and technical requirements necessary for presenting the project.

This initiative continues Biennale Danza’s commitment to supporting new generations of dance artists and companies in Italy and abroad for the sixth consecutive year. In previous editions, works such as "A Good Man is Hard to Find" by the British duo Bullyache, "Sisifo felice" by Philippe Kratz and Pablo Girolami with the Nuovo Balletto di Toscana, "Just Between Me and Jesus" by New Zealander Oli Mathiesen, and "Invisible" by Andrea Salustri were featured in 2026.

By encouraging the creation of new choreographic works, the Biennale aims to foster artistic development and innovation in contemporary dance. The upcoming festival will offer a significant platform for the premiere of these new pieces, contributing to the cultural landscape of Venice and the international dance community.

Artists and companies are encouraged to consult the official Biennale di Venezia website for detailed application guidelines and submission procedures.
