The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) presented a variety of events on Sunday, September 20, 2026, inviting visitors to explore its collections and participate in hands-on art experiences. The day began with a docent-led tour at 9:30 a.m. at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, focusing on the David Geffen Galleries, which house LACMA’s permanent collection. This tour covered the exhibition level of the building, providing an extensive overview of the displayed artworks.
Throughout the day, multiple 30-minute docent-led tours were available in the Modern Art Galleries and outdoor sculpture areas. These tours, scheduled at 11:30 a.m., 12 p.m., 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m., offered interactive experiences for families and general visitors alike. The tours met outdoors on the W.M. Keck Plaza and required museum admission. Visitors were advised that these volunteer-led tours could be subject to cancellation.
In addition to tours, LACMA hosted several creative workshops on the W.M. Keck Education Plaza. At 12 p.m., fiber arts enthusiasts gathered on the Resnick Lawn for a session led by Elly Dallas, where participants could work on personal projects or learn new skills. Concurrently, drop-in workshops inspired by the Pacific section of the David Geffen Galleries were led by artists Bianca Argueta and Maggie Latorre, encouraging visitors to create their own art.
Families were also invited to a playful, hands-on workshop at 12:30 p.m. with artist Christina Quarles, focusing on mark-making using experimental tools and gestures. This session aimed to engage participants of all ages in creative exploration.
Later in the afternoon, at 1 p.m., an event scheduled on the Resnick Lawn was canceled. However, at the same time in the David Geffen Galleries, visitors had the opportunity to hear from artist Eileen Cowin and LACMA curators Rebecca Morse and Britt Salvesen about a current exhibition.
At 2 p.m., another tour introduced guests to the Mediterranean Sea galleries within the David Geffen Galleries, highlighting visual and thematic connections across time and geography. This was followed by a Mid-Autumn Festival celebration and related exhibition activities at 2:30 p.m.
The day concluded with tours at 3 p.m. in the David Geffen Galleries and the Atlantic Ocean galleries, offering further insights into the museum’s diverse collections. These events underscored LACMA’s commitment to providing educational and engaging experiences for a wide audience.
